Essay Structure
Introduction (5-10% of essay):
- Hook: Grab the reader's attention
- Background information
- Thesis statement: Main argument (last sentence)
Body Paragraphs (80-85% of essay):
- Topic sentence: Main idea of the paragraph
- Supporting evidence: Facts, examples, quotes
- Analysis: Explain how evidence supports your point
- Usually 3-5 paragraphs
Conclusion (5-10% of essay):
- Restate thesis in new words
- Summarize main points
- Final thought or call to action
